HARMONY 2018

Dates: 18-22 June, 2018
Location: Oxford, UK

HARMONY is a hackathon-type meeting, with a focus on development of the standards, interoperability and infrastructure. There are generally not many general discussions or oral presentations during HARMONY; instead, the time is devoted to allowing hands-on hacking and interaction between people focused on practical development of software and standards.

Agenda

Due to the hackathon nature of Harmony, the agenda is fluid and typically determined in real-time at the event. Sessions with particular foci will be arranged nearer the time in consultation with the community. You can access the developing timetable here. Some sessions will be available for remote attendance through Google Hangouts - try this hangout group if no other URL is advertised.

We are encouraging people to do a 'lightning presentation' during the introductory session on Monday morning. The topic can range from a software tool that uses COMBINE standards/models that you are producing, to difficulties you are encountering, to a topic you'd like to discuss with others. This is an opportunity to find out what people are doing with COMBINE standards like SBML, SBOL, SED-ML, CellML, etc. Please sign up for a talk slot here if you would like to present.

The venue will be available from 9am each day.

Talk slides, discussion summaries, etc:

Accommodation

Some rooms have been reserved for attendees at St Hugh's College. You need to book your room through the college's agent, using promotion code kx33041.

Note that this reservation is only held until 11th May, so please book by then to ensure a place. Rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis. Should places fill up, however, we may be able to obtain more, so do contact the organisers to inquire.

Alternatively, Oxford has many bed and breakfasts and hotels available to suit all budgets. There are excellent public transport links between outlying areas and the city centre, meaning most accommodation will be within half an hour's journey from the workshop venue.

Travel

The main Oxford University website provides advice on travel to Oxford. The Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) is a brisk 20-minute walk from the railway station, or a brisk 15-minute walk from the bus station, but taxis are readily available.

The DTC is located within the Rex Richards Building, off South Parks Road, behind the Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory.

When you get to the entrance on the north west side (marked on the map) please use the buzzer to ask for admission to the building.

There is a lift available to all floors, as well as staircase access.

Additional Information

The Oxford Visitor Information Centre offers advice on walking tours, accommodation, things to do in Oxford, and more.

We are looking into options to provide travel bursaries for student attendees, and will update this page with more information when available.
